Yoga or Pilates?

Both types of training focus not only on physical but also mental well-being, but differ in their execution - and in their origins. While yoga is thousands of years old and is also considered a philosophical teaching, Pilates was invented during the First World War by the German Joseph Hubert Pilates.

Both yoga and Pilates incorporate the flow of breath into training. However, the movement systems use different breathing techniques: Pilates workouts involve breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. Yoga exercises involve breathing almost exclusively through the nose.
Breathing also plays a far greater role in yoga - it serves to relax the mind.

In contrast to Pilates, yoga is therefore not practiced according to repetitions or counts. The individual poses (asanas) are held over several breaths or performed one after the other in a flow that matches the flow of breath.

Why Yoga?

Anyone practising yoga should not only be present with their body, but also be fully engaged with their mind. This holistic workout is not for those who simply want to burn off energy or switch off completely. Yoga trains your mindfulness - your ability to arrive in the here and now with all your senses. In the broadest sense, yoga is a form of meditation in which you take various asanas that alternate between relaxation and tension.

It is important to concentrate on your breathing, even at maximum effort. It mainly trains the core, but yoga is also perfect as a warm-up before other sports, such as jogging and biking. Yoga has now also established itself as a useful supplement for strength athletes.

Why Pilates?

Pilates focuses on the center of the body. During the exercises, your center of strength, the so-called "powerhouse", is activated.
You train the deep muscles in the pelvis and around the waist - improving not only your posture but also your flexibility.

Regular Pilates training allows the pelvis and shoulder area to twist more freely against each other. At the same time, other muscles also work, which makes Pilates a strengthening full-body workout without straining your joints.
